If more people in politics spent their time either administering government or preparing to be in government rather than spewing negative energy stirring shit we really would be living in a better world.
I was just browsing the latest news on the Guardian website and tried to catch up with the US brouhaha regarding the proposed mosque at ground zero. By the end of the short first paragraphs I decided it’s just not worth my time to continue. It seems that all politicians seem to want to do is stir shit to validate themselves.
Of course, there is a line of reasoning that says we should know our enemy but I’m not sure I agree with this anymore. A past friend surprised me after I reconnected a few years back by saying she didn’t follow politics anymore. I remember wondering how can she live being so disconnected with the world, which also lead me to feel that her way of life could actually be considered quite selfish; if you don’t know what’s going on how can you sympathize with, and have empathy for, people who are less fortunate than you?
Well lately with all the crap fed to us day in day out by our governments (the stuff they allow the moneyed people to get away with while we are all expected to play by the rules, the promises made pre-election and broken as soon as they are elected, etc.) has made me begin to think again about what my past friend said and then to assess her statement differently.
Maybe my past friend is wise and I am naive.
If we, the real people (the majority), just switched off and didn’t listen, I wonder whether they (the Newt Gingriches of this world) will go away and be forced to become productive members of society working in positive ways for the betterment of humanity and the world?
